Tacoma Coffee Follow Up (aka 24 Hour Tacoma)

onehearttitle It has come to my attention that we do have another late night coffee option in Tacoma! The One Heart Cafe located next to the Grand Cinema is open most nights until 1:30 AM. This is the spot of the old Kickstand Cafe, although the interior is completely different. They have an impressive array of couches in the back room. I have to say beware if you are planning on working at the One Heart Cafe because those couches are an invitation to slothfulness.

Some of us may be familiar with One Heart Cafe’s other location 1117 Broadway Ave. If so you will feel at home in the new location. The walls are covered with an impressive array of art work.

Thanks go out to Michael Pierce for pointing out the new location and hours.

Interactive Art Opening.

McLeod Residence SignLast night Kendal and I went to an art opening at the McLeod Residence in Seattle. The show is titled Interactivity: Artists working with Technology; Technologists working with Art.

Kendall and I both liked the interactive textiles by Maggie Orth. Imagine a consantly evolving plaid patterned quilt with stripes fading in and out.

Speaking of evolving, people were captivated by the Genetic Mandalas created by Barry Tolnas. This interactive exhibit displayed a series of multicolored figures on a touchscreen. By touching one of the figures a new generation of figures was created expressing the phenotype of the chosen figure. It was really exiting to watch the evolution of the figures. Near monocultures could be created but by design (I think) Barry always left some diversity in the system to prevent pranksters from disabling the exhibit.

I highly recommend the show to anyone in, near or passing through Seattle. The show will run through September 1st, 2007.
