Ok, so not really but it feels like it! The Metropolitan Apartments located on St. Helens were supposed to open on June 1st. The first week of June my fiancee and I submitted an application to rent a nice (although small) one bedroom on the 6th floor. It had a beautiful view of downtown and the Mountain. We were excited about the jacuzzi on the roof. We were unconcerned that the building had missed the June 1st opening date as we wanted to move in over a month and a half later. The leasing agent assured us this would not be a problem. After all, the building was scheduled to open at the beginning of July! If only we had known that the building would be at least 2 months late in opening.
Last Thursday, July 24th at 4:30 PM I called my leasing agent to inquire about my Saturday move in date. She told me, paraphrasing here, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine. We are sending out an email to all of the residents now.” Around 4:38 PM they sent an email to my fiancee informing us that the building would not be open until at least August 1st. We received the email around 8 PM as she was working that evening. As I must be out of my current home before July 31st and I’m leaving for Las Vegas (work trip) on the 1st this was not helpful.
My fiancee and I decided we had enough of the Metropolitan and the uncertain move in date. I did not appreciate being lied to by the leasing agent. Last Friday my fiancee and I showed up at Hanna Heights at 9 AM and spoke with the property manager there. We were not able to move in on Saturday as we had hoped but we will be in by the end of the month. It is more expensive and does not have the amenities of the Metropolitan but the apartment is significantly larger (by over 300 sq ft.), has a higher quality interior and the property manager hasn’t lied to us yet.
Last I heard the Metropolitan had just passed a fire inspection but did not yet have a permit for operating their elevator. Maybe we should have a betting pool on what their real opening date will be?
